Embodied within Shoreline's system is a specialized program for
dealing with youth who require special treatment for special
behavioral disorders. Youth with chemical dependency frequently
exhibit very challenging behaviors. These behaviors can be
terribly frightening within the family setting. Often these
behaviors have resulted in involvement with the criminal justice
system. Effective substance abuse treatment requires that these
behaviors be treated and managed. Our programs treat these
behaviors by holding each youth accountable for meeting their
own needs and for accepting responsibility for their own
behaviors. This system utilizes a skill based curriculum for
teaching appropriate social skills to the youth. Youth are then
required to use these more appropriate skills in order to move
through the various program levels. As youth begin to see their
success with these new skills, their self-esteem improves and
they move into areas of greater responsibility and privilege.
